Environmental Regulation of Weed Seed Dormancy and Germination

نویسندگان

چکیده

Many weeds produce dormant seeds that are unable to complete germination under favourable conditions. There two types of seed dormancy: primary dormancy (innate dormancy), in which a state upon release from the parent plant, and secondary (induced develops through some experience after plant. Mechanisms categorized as embryo coat-imposed dormancy. In dormancy, control resides within itself, it is maintained by structures enclosing embryo. factors can influence during development dispersal; they be abiotic, biotic, or combination both. Most deposit large number bank, one types—transient persistent. transient type, all viable soil germinate die year, there no carry-over until new crop deposited. persistent at least survive for more than year always Some require after-ripening—changes dry cause improve germination. Nondormant, if encounter appropriate face climate change, including global warming, proportion nondormant seeds, shortly dispersal, smaller, bank. Further studies required explore this phenomenon.

Seed dormancy and germination.

Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination. More recently, the use of quantitative genetics and mutant approaches has allowed t...

Seed Germination and Dormancy.

Seeds are a vital component of the world’s diet. Cereal grains alone, which comprise -90% of all cultivated seeds, contribute up to half of the global per capita energy intake. Not surprisingly then, seed biology is one of the most extensively researched areas in plant physiology. Even in relation to the topics reviewed here, a casual perusal of the Agricola database reveals that well over 5000...

Seed dormancy-breaking and germination requirements of

Dormancy breaking and germination requirements were investigated in seeds of Ferula ovina and Ferula gummosa. Seeds of rather species were collected from north and eastern-north rangelands of Iran. Seeds of each of the species were subjected to different treatments including various levels of GA3, chilling and combination of GA3 and chilling (GA-chilling). In contrast to treated seeds, non-trea...

Seed dormancy and the control of germination.

Seed dormancy is an innate seed property that defines the environmental conditions in which the seed is able to germinate. It is determined by genetics with a substantial environmental influence which is mediated, at least in part, by the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellins. Not only is the dormancy status influenced by the seed maturation environment, it is also continuously changing...
